Hazel D. Isbell


Hazel Darlene Isbell, 75, of Independence, Missouri, passed away on November 9, 2017.  Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 18th at The Salvation Army, 14700 E. Truman Rd., Independence, MO 64050.

Hazel was born on September 17, 1942, in Terre Haute, Indiana, the daughter of Ernest Taylor and Geneva Shoemaker.  She was a soldier of The Salvation Army for over 28 years, serving many of those years as a Sunday School teacher and Corps Sergeant Major.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of then 44 years, Elvin Isbell Sr.; and two sisters, Mary Menke and Marie Sales.

She is survived by her two children: Elvin Isbell, Jr. of Independence, and Esther Van Becelaere of Kansas City, MO; five grandchildren: Robey Isbell, Zack Isbell, Sara Isbell, Brooke Betz and Mason Van Becelaere; two great-grandchildren, Cash and Max Betz; and eight siblings: Paul Taylor, Esther Taylor, Bill Thomas, Perry Thomas, Glen Thomas, Robert Thomas, Beth Taylor and Arlene Jones.
