Helen Doris Drewer Downs, 88, of Grain Valley, MO, went home to Glory on Wednesday, May 8, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 11th at Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley; burial in Valley Memorial Gardens, Grain Valley. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Helen was born on October 30, 1924 in St. Louis, MO, and grew up in Meta, MO and Kansas City, MO. She married James Vincent Downs on June 5, 1944 and they were blessed with two children. Helen is admired for her commitment to family, known for her signature dishes, and is best remembered for her witty sense of humor and optimism.
Helen is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years; her mother & stepfather, Ella & Ona Slone; and one grandchild, Brian James Downs.
Her survivors include daughter, Linda Jeter (David) of Excelsior Springs; son, Larry Downs (Linda) of Kansas City; six grandchildren: Sheri Brown (Neal), Robert Jeter (Lisa), Darren Jeter (Tabatha), Chris Downs (Ashley), Tracy Carbah (Dean), Nicole Certain (Will); and nine great-grandchildren: Mia & Dianna Brown; Elizabeth, Everett, Grant, & Annabelle Jeter; Vincent Carbah, Aiden Downs, and Nathaniel Jeter.
