
Ingeborg Jarmilla Opawsky Varner, 93, died peacefully on January 24, 2017 at her home in Lee’s Summit, MO. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 28th in Oak Grove Cemetery, Oak Grove, MO. A gathering for family and friends will be held immediately following at the family’s home in Lee’s Summit; address upon request. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association in her honor.
Ingrid was born December 25, 1923, in Ostrava, Czech Republic. After the Munich Agreement, she and her parents were forced to leave their home and were exiled to Germany. During the occupation of Germany, Ingrid was an interpreter for the Allied Forces. She spoke several languages and was fluent in English, German, and Czech. She met Harold Don Varner in Germany while he was serving in the military police. They married July 10, 1956 and moved to Raytown, MO. In April of 1957, their only daughter, Patricia Lee was born. In 1967, she became a naturalized citizen of the United States, and changed her name from Ingeborg Jarmilla to Ingrid J.
Harold and Inge lived in Napoleon, MO, from 1962 until Harold’s death in 1999, after which Ingrid moved with her daughter to Blue Springs in 2004. In 2014, she and her daughter moved to Lee’s Summit, where she resided until her death. Ingrid was a believer in God the Father and Jesus Christ His Son.
Ingrid was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Don; her parents, Josef and Elizabeth Opawsky. She leaves behind her daughter, Patricia L. Adams; grandson & granddaughter, Josef L. and Stephanie Adams; great-granddaughter, Jocelyn L. Adams; and two great-grandsons: John S. Southard and Ryker J. Adams.
