James R. Bell


James R. Bell, 84, of Odessa, MO died on August 15, 2014.  Visitation will be 9:30-11:00 a.m., Tuesday August 19, 2014 at Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley, MO. Memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

He was born on January 26, 1930. His parents were Elmer & Liza (Stephens) Bell.  Jim was a gambler, a jokester and a self-made man. As with so many depression era kids, Jim had to learn how to make it on his own. By age 12 he way playing poker with grown men and winning! At age 16, he moved to Kansas City to go to barber school with his big brother, Clint.  Jim returned to Lebanon, MO where he barbered for many years until a heart by-pass surgery forced his early retirement. Jim was always in search of the cheapest gas, always had a coupon for lunch and he always got the best of any new car salesman. He never missed an opportunity to share one of his many jokes with anyone he met. Family always came first with Jim.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Bonnie Jean (Hayes) Bell and brother, Clint Bell.

Jim is survived by his sons: Jim Bell, Steve Bell (Donna); grandsons: Josh Bell, Sam Bell and special friend, Laquita Fears.
