James W. Nebgen


James William Nebgen, 85, of Oak Grove, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2017.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 1st at First Baptist Church of Oak Grove; burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the church.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Deaf Ministry.

James was born March 6, 1932, in Grain Valley, Missouri, the son of William J. and Ethel (Johnson) Nebgen.  He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War.  James married Carol E. Arth on October 16, 1970.  He retired from the downtown K.C. post office.  James was a member of First Baptist Church of Oak Grove, where he was very active in the Deaf Ministry and went on several mission trips to Puerto Rico.  He was also a member of the Oak Grove American Legion, the DAV, and Retired Enlisted Association.  He enjoyed farming, gardening, and fixing things.

His survivors include his wife of 46 years, Carol Nebgen of the home; four daughters: Debbie Dorton and Kim Nebgen (Debbie Ferguson), all of Oak Grove, Christy Hugunin (Chris) of Lee’s Summit, MO, and Rebecca Nebgen of the home; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters: Marjorie Joyce McCain of Independence, MO, Louise Gilleland of Lee’s Summit, and Barbara Davis (Doyle) of Oak Grove; and one brother, Charles Nebgen of Lee’s Summit.
