Jerry E. Junkins, 70, of Blue Springs, MO, passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at Kansas City Hospice House. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 7th at Plaza Heights Baptist Church, 1500 Clark Rd., Blue Springs; burial in Floral Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:00 a.m. until service time. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Plaza Heights Baptist Church or Kansas City Hospice House.
Jerry was born March 7, 1939 in Kansas City, MO, the son of William & Bettie (Brummet) Junkins. He married Earlene Oerly on November 23, 1963. Jerry had been employed as a theatrical stagehand for Local 31 IATSE. He worked for the Kansas City Symphony, Lyric Opera, Starlight Theatre, Kansas City Ballet, and other venues for 49 years. He was an active member of Plaza Heights Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William L. Junkins.
His survivors include his wife of 45 years: Earlene Junkins of the home; one daughter: Denise Zweerink & husband Scott of Blue Springs; one son: Mark Junkins & wife Lynnette of Summerville, SC; and six grandchildren: Matthew, Emily, Kara & Anna Zweerink and Connor & Alyssa Junkins.
