Jerry G. Ellis


Jerry G. Ellis, 91, of Oak Grove, Missouri, went to be with his wife of 66 years on Wednesday, 5 October 2016.  Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 10th in Mecklin Cemetery, Oak Grove.

Jerry was born at home just outside of Buckner, Missouri, on 23 May 1925.  He left high school early and enlisted in the Merchant Marines, where he served several “runs thru the Wolf Packs” in the North Atlantic during WWII.  He later joined the Navy and spent the remainder of his enlistment at Adak Island, Alaska.  Jerry was called back into service in 1950 for the Korean War.  He was and over the road truck driver for over 30 years, most of that time with The Arkansas Best Freight company. 

He is survived by his son, Joe Ellis of the home; daughter, Jane Butterworth of Oak Grove; six grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

  1. Surprised to hear of Jerry’s passing. He never liked to be away from Rena so he’s probably really happy now. He was an admirable man and certainly left a great legacy.
