Judy Johnson


Judy Guy Williams Johnson, 83, died Friday, October 29, 2021, at St Luke’s Hospital in Lees Summit, MO.  A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 20th at the First Baptist Church of Oak Grove.  The family suggests contributions to the Community Services League of Oak Grove, the Sni-Valley Fire Department, or the new Oak Grove Animal Shelter (2110 S Broadway).

Judy was born on January 6, 1938, at Independence Hospital, the daughter of J.F. and Gerry Guy and lived most of her life in Oak Grove, Missouri. She was a 1956 graduate of Oak Grove High School.   Judy also graduated from Central Missouri State College and continued her education by receiving a Master’s Degree in Library Science.

In 1959, she married Jim Williams, Jr.  When Jim was in the Air force, they lived in Kaiserslautern, Germany for 2 ½ years.  They were married 21 years, and Jim was tragically killed in the Hyatt Regency Skywalk accident in 1980.  In 1983, she married Charles Johnson; and they were married 22 years until his death in 2005.

Judy’s teaching career began as a 4th grade teacher at Fort Osage Elementary school, and then she taught 4th grade at the Oak Grove Elementary School.  Judy then started up the Oak Grove Elementary library which later became the Oak Grove Elementary Media Center. 

Judy was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church of Oak Grove and belonged to the Beta Sigma Phi sorority for 50 years.  She also belonged to the Young Women’s Civic organization, the OG Historical Society, and the Missouri State Teachers Association.

Survivors include sister Janet Guy Dwyer, nephew J.P. Dwyer, and great-nephew Logan Dwyer, who all live in Centennial, Colorado; Charles Allen Johnson and Kara Johnson of Oak Grove, Missouri; and three grandchildren Kari, Krystal, and Aaron.

  1. What a wonderful friend she was! I will miss our fun visits and her genuine kindness. She truly knew how much God lived her.
