Linda K. Sams


Linda Kay Sams, 79, of Sibley, MO, passed away April 6, 2019 in Independence, MO.  Visitation will be 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. with funeral to follow at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 14th at Royer’s New Salem Funeral Home in Independence, MO.  Following service, cemetery burial at Buckner Hills Cemetery.

Linda was born March 30, 1940 to Gerald & Nola (Blatt) Dawson.  She was raised in Lamoni, Iowa and married Raymond (Ray) Sams on June 1, 1958.  Linda longed to be a mother.  She lost her first child Wanda Joy in 1960, but was later blessed with Susan, Stephanie, and Jeremy.  She deeply loved her grandchildren, Austin, Amber, Jordan, Mya, Kendra, and Brody, and also experienced the joy of becoming a great-grandma to Adeline.  Linda was a member of Saint Havens Restoration Church in Sibley, MO.  She was creative, artistic, and religious.  She had a strong bond with her sisters.  She enjoyed painting, praying, talking about Jesus and stories in the bible, writing letters, sewing, quilting, playing piano, singing hymns, reading, playing card games, laughing at stories, bragging about children and grandchildren, gardening, and nature.

Linda was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Dawson; daughter, Wanda Joy Sams; and her parents Gerald & Nola (Blatt) Dawson.

Linda is survived by her husband, Ray Sams of their home; daughter, Susan McAfee and future son-in-law, Tim Lepping of Louisville, KY; daughter, Stephanie and son-in-law, Paul Wypasek of Little Falls, NJ; son, Jeremy Sams of Sibley, MO; 6 grandchildren: Austin McAfee, Amber McAfee, Jordan & Danielle Smith, Mya Sams, Kendra Smith, and Brody Sams; and 1 great-grandchild, Adeline Rose Smith.  She was the oldest of her siblings, which includes 3 sisters:  Bonnie Krudis of Santa Clarita, CA, Judi & Bill Faunce of Independence, MO, and Kathy & Brad Walters of Mt. Vernon, IA; and 1 brother, Jerry & Marcia Dawson of Northville, MI.

  3. Linda was one of the sweetest women I knew. As a young girl she was like a second mom to me. She made a strong impression in my life. Our hearts go out to all of you at your loss. God bless – April Erwin
