Lois Jane Royer, 85, of Oak Grove, MO, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday May 13, 2010 at the Shangri-La Rehab & Living Center after an eight year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Lois was born on February 17, 1925, in Oak Grove, MO the daughter of Charles Arthur & Mary Emma (Kabrick) Pigg. She graduated from Oak Grove High School in 1942 and married Kenneth R. Royer on March 13, 1943. Lois & Kenneth established Royer Funeral Home in Oak Grove in 1959. They were both licensed funeral directors, but Lois rant the funeral home with Kenneth taught school. They were also involved in various other business ventures and community service in Oak Grove.
Lois was a member of the Oak Grove United Methodist Church, the Seeker’s Sunday School Class, the Moonlight Circle, and UMW. Shew as a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Oak Grove for over 50 years.
Preceding Lois in death were her husband of 58 years: Kenneth Royer in 2002; two brothers: Ewell Pigg & Joe Pigg; four sisters: Lavera Lindquist, Pearl Garrigues, Audree Stacy, and Mary Ruth Middleton; and one grandson: Robert Keith Royer.
Her survivors include three sons: Ronald Royer & Nancy, Philip Royer & wife Uneeda, all of Kansas City, and Pete Royer & wife Barbara of Oak Grove; five grandsons: MSgt. Ben Royer, US Air Force, Yigo, Guam, Elliot Royer & wife Dr. Nora Royer of Kansas City, Christopher Royer & wife Amanda of Chicago, IL, Eric Royer of Oak Grove, and Mark Royer of Kansas City; two step-grandchildren: Holly McCullough & husband Kevin, and Jason Reynolds, both of Oak Grove; a great-grandson: Nathan Royer, and a great0granddaughter: Erin Royer; two brothers: Kenton Pigg of Oceanside, CA and Leroy Paige of Tucson, AZ; and numerous nieces & nephews.
The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff of the south wing of Shangri-La Rehab & Living Center for the gentle, loving care they have bestowed on Lois all these years.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Davis Memorial Senior Center, Oak Grove or to the Activities Department of Shangri-La Rehab & Living Center, Blue Springs.
