Lorraine T. Casey


Lorraine Taylor Casey of Oak Grove passed away peacefully at the age 88 on Thursday, August 7, 2014.

She was born in St. Louis, MO on April 1, 1926 to Karl and Anna Taylor. She graduated from St. Anthony’s Catholic high school and then attended Logan Chiropractic College for one year. There she met Gordon Casey, whom she married on August 16, 1947.

The couple moved to Oak Grove in 1964 and Lorraine established Sunny Days Day Care and Preschool in her home in 1969 while raising 8 children of her own. Today the school is licensed for 120 children and is run by her daughter Michelle.  She was truly loved by her family and her community, where she was known fondly as “Mrs. Casey”, the owner of Sunny Days. She touched and helped thousands of people and was universally beloved for all she did for her family and community. 

Lorraine was preceded by her husband Gordon and is survived by her eight children and their spouses: Timothy and Glenda Casey of Oak Grove; Patricia and Joe Welch of Fairway, KS; Michelle and Michael Munson of Oak Grove; Thomas and Jenny Casey of Lee’s Summit; James and Vanessa Casey of San Antonio, TX; Jon and Jennifer Casey of Oak Grove; Mike Casey of Charlotte, NC; and Mary and Terry Putney of Prairie Village, KS. She is also survived by 24 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Royer Funeral home in Oak Grove, MO from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday August 10, 2014. The Funeral Mass will take place at 10 a.m. Monday August 11, 2014 at St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Oak Grove, with the burial immediately following.
