Marjorie Elizabeth Long, 83, was taken into the hands of God on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at her home. Marjorie was born December 23, 1926 in Burlington, Kansas, where she grew up with her 3 brothers, Ralph, Roger & Don Bowen. She was a graduate of Emporia State Teacher’s college and retired after a long career with Bell South Telephone Co. in Topeka, KS.
Marjorie had 4 passions in life; her God, her family, playing cards, & going to the lake. She was the loving wife of Jesse for almost 65 years. She was a wonderful mother to her sons, Mike & Steve, and took great delight in being Grandma & Great-Grandma to her grandchildren: Norma Jean, Mike, Morgan, Jessica & Robert; and her great-grandchildren: Lawson, Tressa & Josiah. She was an active member of Grain Valley Christian Church and the Women’s Auxiliary Group. She loved all of her church friends, and she considered them her second family.
Marjorie loved to play cards of any kind with family & friends, and if given the opportunity would do so until the wee hours of the night. For her, the ultimate get-away was going to her favorite cabin at the Lake of the Ozarks with as many grandkids as possible and then plan that ultimate fish fry – if Jesse was lucky.
