Mary E. Schildhauer

Mary Ellen Schildhauer, 97, of Independence, MO, passed away on Friday, September 11, 2020 at Rosewood at the Groves.  Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15th in Oak Grove Cemetery, Oak Grove, MO.

Mary was born February 23, 1923, in Independence, MO, the daughter of Roy C. and Mary F. (Netter) Martin.  In her early married years, she enjoyed gardening, baking, and sewing.  She earned extra income from taking in ironing from friends and family.  Mary worked with children teaching Sunday School and in the Skylarks and Orioles program.  She was a wonderful storyteller for all ages.  Mary retired as a bookkeeper for the RLDS church and was a member of the Buckner Restoration Branch.  In her retirement years, she and Bob enjoyed many winters in Apache Junction, AZ, where they made friends with people from all over the United States.  They called Buckner, MO, home in the summertime.  They attended many congregations in the church throughout their lives and made lasting friendships wherever they went.  When Mary’s name is mentioned, it brings a smile to the face of her family and friends.  She will be fondly missed.

Mary is survived by her 3 children: Kay Williams (Harry) of Independence, MO, Dennis Schildhauer of Alamagordo, NM, and Melissa Green (Jim) of Lone Jack, MO; 9 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

  1. I worked with Mary at the Blue Valley Stake Office and was briefly a neighbor of the Schildhauer’s during my late teens. Mary was a joy to work with and was a great mentor to me. We had some good times and I have cherished those memories many years. My sympathy to the Schildhauer family, Jennifer Allen Crisp
