Mary L. Brown


Mary Louise Shippy Brown, 90, of Lone Jack, Missouri, passed away Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Belton Regional Hospital.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 29th at Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley, MO; burial in Brown Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 28th at the funeral home.

Mary was born October 16, 1928 in Kingsville, Missouri, the daughter of Curt C. and Mary (Ballard) Shippy.  She married Merle K. Brown on October 4, 1948.  She and Merle opened their homes and hearts to many, where everyone was welcomed and made to feel at home.  New Year’s Eve was a special time for family and friends when people would bring musical instruments and food to welcome the end of one year and the beginning of another with friendship and bluegrass music.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years; her parents; her baby sister; and other relatives and friends.

She is survived by her children: Penelope Moyer (John) of Oak Grove, MO, Lonnie Brown (Cari) of Lone Jack, Carmellia Nelson (Dwight) of Stillwell, KS, and Celesta Schowengerdt (Mike) of Raytown, MO; two sisters: Frances Elkins of Holden, MO, and Maxine Jaeger (Gene) of Warrensburg, MO; three sisters-in-law: Kitty McKay of Holden, Clara Jane Brown of Holden, and May Van Os of Hannibal, MO; 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
