Mary Hackathorn Powers, age 62, of Independence, Missouri, passed away August 23, 2017, after a long battle with cancer.  She was described by many who knew her as a kind and gentle soul, with a heart of gold.  Mary had a smile that could light up a room and a free spirit that was unlike any other.

Mary is survived by her husband of 26 years, Shawn Powers; seven children: Arbie Hoppes, Ben Hoppes and wife Lisa, Felicia Hoppes, Amanda Hoppes and Steven Kelley, Justin Powers, Corey Powers, and Aaron Powers; and two grandchildren, Emma and Cooper.  Mary also leaves behind five siblings: Rick Hackathorn, David Hackathorn, Charlene Niffen, Rita Helvey, and Jack Hackathorn; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Jean Hackathorn.

Mary wished to forego the traditional funeral, but instead expressed, in true Mary fashion, to have a gathering of her immediate family for a Celebration of Life.  Her family appreciates all the prayers and support from those that Mary had an effect on their lives, especially Houstons Inc.
