Mattie Clay Greer, 88 of Oak Grove, Missouri, passed away Friday, June 17, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 21st at Grace Baptist Church, Oak Grove; burial in Valley Memorial Gardens, Grain Valley, MO. The family will receive guests from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church. Contributions may be made to Grace Baptist Church or to the Community Services League in Oak Grove.
Mattie was born May 25, 1928, in Montserrat, Missouri, the daughter of Oscar and Theresa (McDowell) Garner. She graduated from Lexington High School and attended one year at Central Missouri State University. Mattie left home at the age of 15 and began supporting herself as she went to school and college. She owned the Orrick Dry Cleaners in Orrick, MO, for many years during the 1960s, where it became a successful business. After moving to Liberty, MO, in 1968, she opened Drive In Cleaners and once again became very successful as a business owner.
Mattie leaves behind her husband of 17 years and life-long friend, Kenneth R. Greer; 2 daughters: Carroll Anne McQuerrey (David) of Lawson, MO, and Paula Sue Hibler (Donald Jr.) of Bates City, MO; 1 son, Larry Leroy Merriman of Kearney, MO; 1 sister, Francis Wright of Carrollton, MO; 2 stepdaughters: Debbie Farrar and Glenda Brooks; and 1 stepson, Alan Greer (Linda). Her legacy continues with 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; several step grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
