Melvin Ray Owens, 87, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away Saturday, August 4, 2018. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 10, 2018 at Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Melvin was born on May 19, 1931 in Izard County, AR, son of Willie William and Margie Ann (Coleman) Owens. On June 18, 1955, he married C. Ruth Lightle. He worked in the restaurant supply business as a delivery man for Presto Foods then in the warehouse for Malones. He finished out his work life as a custodian at William Southern Elementary School. He attended Central Assembly of God in Independence, MO. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, C. Ruth; and sister, Imogene Burgess.
His survivors include 2 daughters, Teresa (John) Epperson of Indian Harbor Beach, FL. and Lesa Holland of Raytown, MO; 3 grandchildren, Daniel (Brit) Epperson of San Francisco, CA, Rachel Epperson and husband Will Schroeder of Hong Kong, China and Michelle Holland of Lee’s Summit, MO; 1 great-grandchild, Emma Holland; 2 brothers, Raymond (Royce) Owens of Violet Hill, AR. And Edward (Laura) Owens of Sweet Water, TN; sister, Freda (Ron) Hon of Kearney, MO; special friend, Rose Bennett; and a host of nieces and nephews.
