Mitchell E. Hooper, 93, of Oak Grove, MO, formerly of Independence, MO, passed away on Friday, June 22, 2018 at Oak Grove Nursing & Rehab. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 27th at Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley, MO. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, MO.
Mitchell was born July 9, 1924, in Sedalia, MO, the son of Herschel and Anna (Darling) Hooper. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946 as a medical technician and medical transport, and then as general truck transport as a TEC 5, Tech Corporal. Mitchell married Daisy Hooper on June 7, 1946, and had a son, Dennis K. Hooper in 1947. He became a truck driver and drove for various trucking companies and was a member of the Teamsters Union. He was known as “Mitch” by his friends and co-workers. He enjoyed playing cards and listening to Jim Reeves songs, and was blessed with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved them very much.
Mitchell was preceded in death by his wife, Daisy. His survivors include his son, Dennis Hooper; daughter-in-law, Denise Hooper; granddaughter Staci Plumberg, great-granddaughter Crystal Hooper, and great great-grandson Elijah; and granddaughter Jaclyn Adams, grandson Ben Adams, and great-grandsons, Hayden, Cole, and Wyatt.
