Opal Irene Pickering, 85, of Independence, Missouri, passed away November 29, 2015. Visitation is 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, December 4th at New Salem Funeral Home, Independence. Graveside services are at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 5th in Kingston Cemetery, Kingston, Missouri.
Opal was born November 24, 1930 in Kingston, Missouri, the youngest daughter of Benjamin and Myrtle Mae Emery. She was retired from Stride Rite Shoe factory in Hamilton, Missouri. Opal loved to dance a Friday or Saturday night away to good country music.
Opal was preceded in death by her two children: son Danny Dean Barnard of Kingston in 1999, and daughter Cheri Ann Barnard of Independence in 2015; three siblings: brother Harley Emery, sister Katherine (Emery) Mays, and brother Beryl Emery.
Her survivors include her sister, Nelda (Emery) Bassett of Collins, MS; granddaughter, Dana Barnard of St. Louis, MO; two great-grandchildren: James and Syvanne of AZ, and Dave Coen; and many nieces and nephews.
