Paul Smith


Paul Smith, 87, of Blue Springs, MO passed away February 16, 2020.  Services will be held on Thursday, February 20th at Royer’s New Salem Funeral Home, Independence, MO, with visitation from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. and funeral at 11:00 a.m., followed by burial in Six Mile Cemetery. 

Paul was born March 29, 1932 in Kansas City, MO to Clyde & Roxie (Turner) Smith.  He proudly served his country, retiring from the United States Army.  Paul was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather and uncle.  He was a career Army Mechanic and Pilot serving for 22 years.  He served in the Korea and Vietnam War.  Paul worked for Ford Motor Co at the Claycomo Plant for 22 years. In 1994 he then drove for KC Auto Auction, finally retiring in 2003.  Paul was cast in the movie Tora, Tora, Tora in 1970, playing the role of a Military Airfield Mechanic.  He was an avid bowler for 30 years, carrying an average of 282, and he enjoyed fishing and playing cards. 

Paul was preceded in death by his wife Elsie Frances in 2013; his parents; five children: Paul Smith Jr, Arthur Clyde Smith, Denise Robinson, Daniel Robinson, and Donald Smith; grandson Johnathon Smith; two brothers: Buck Smith and James Matney; and sister Alice Winfrey. 

He is survived by daughter Roxanna Allen (Jeffrey); son Robert Allen Smith (Janet); daughter Sherri Diana Turner; and daughter-in-law Kris Smith, all of Independence, MO; stepson Dennis Robinson of Pomona Lake, KS; 30 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
