Phyllis Ann James, 85, of Independence, Missouri, passed away on Monday, September 10, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 14th at Royer’s New Salem Funeral Home, Independence; burial in New Salem Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Phyllis was born December 7, 1932, in Fairfax, Missouri, the daughter of John S. and Bess (Prater) Robinson. Throughout her career, she worked as a clerk for MGM Studios, a lunch lady at Elm Grove Elementary in the Fort Osage School District, and a catalog clerk for Mid-Continent Public Library Distribution Center, before retiring in 1990. Phyllis loved music, dancing, feeding the birds, and being outdoors. She was an exceptional gardener with beautiful gardens and was a past member of the Raytown Garden Club. She was an avid camper, traveling all over the country in her 5th wheel camper with her husband, Melvin.
Phyllis is survived by one son, Grant James (Maggi) of Sugar Creek, MO; one daughter, Laura Lower (Mike) of Blue Springs, MO; four grandchildren: Heather Lambeth, Erin Lata (Jason), Staci Logan (Parker), and Austin Lower; seven great-grandchildren: Brennon, Aspen, Emmett, Madi, Nellie, Landrie, and Audrie; and two brothers: Jack Robinson (Phyllis) of Allen, TX, and Jim Robinson (Naomi) of Raymore, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin James; three sisters: Ruth Boyd, Alice Hire, and Dorothy Poindexter; and three brothers: Edwin, Gene, and Donald Robinson.
