Ralph P. Baxter


Ralph Patrick Baxter, 87, of Grain Valley, MO, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2020 at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, MO. There will be a family burial in Buckner Cemetery with a Memorial Mass at a later date. Donations may be made to the Catholic Church of the Santa Fe in Buckner or the Buckner Community Services League.

Ralph was born February 1, 1933 in High Gate, MO, the son of Leo P. and Martha (Smith) Baxter. He served in the U.S. Army. Ralph worked at Vendo, Sears, Columbian Steel, the Buckner grain elevator, and A.S.C.S., a government agency measuring farm ground. He kept the time clock for basketball for 40 years at Grain Valley High School. In 1952, he married his wife of 67 years, Mary Lou Harra Baxter. They farmed all their married life.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Warren and Paul; and sister, Delores.

His survivors include his wife of the home; two children: Susan Owen and companion Michael Norman of Belton, MO, and Jeffery Baxter and wife Tami of Grain Valley, MO; two grandsons, Scott Bundren (Nikki) and Derek Turner; granddaughter, Susi Dillinger (J.D.); six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; three brothers; and two sisters.

  1. I knew Ralph well during the early years when we started Church at Buckner. He was very helpful and brought his tractor over one time to pull some tree limbs that had fallen due to a storm. Very hard worker. He also gave me some guidance when I became an usher and lector. Just an all around good human and he will be missed.
