Ralph Q. Hensley


Ralph Q. Hensley passed away on Thursday October 25, 2013 at the home of his son, Jim.  Born February 9, 1925 in Kansas City, Mo. to Maggie C. Thompson Hensley and Lester F. Hensley.  He attended Hanover High School in Hanover, Michigan prior to his parents moving to rural Odessa in 1941.  Ralph enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served 30 months in combat in the South Pacific.  He was awarded the Philippian Liberation medal with 1 star, the Asiatic Pacific medal with 4 gold stars and numerous other medals.  He was a life time member of VFW Post 5675 and American Legion Post 286 of Odessa.  He was also a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge 476, Odessa, Scottish Rite, and the Shrine.  Ralph’s career was served as an Electrician.  In the 40’s and early 50’s he installed electricity into many of the homes in the Odessa area.  He was a 50 year member of the IBEW and retired after completing 32 years at Honeywell (Bendix) in Kansas City.  Ralph often said he was a John 3:16 Christian, and a member of the Odessa Church of Christ.

Ralph was predeceased by his parents, one sister Reba M. Hensley Schlickleman, one son Ralph Wayne Hensley, his first wife of 56 years Doris Madge Stokes Hensley, his second wife of 11 years Virginia M. Seaworth Hensley.

Ralph was survived by his brother David F. Hensley and his wife Terry of rural Odessa, one son Jim Hensley and his wife Bonny of rural Kingsville.  Two step children Gail Eades her husband Larry of Independence, Mo. and Neil Seaworth of Independence, Mo.  9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
