
Renee Butts, 87, of Independence, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2019. Memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at Messiah Lutheran Church, 613 S. Main St, Independence, MO 64050. Private burial.
Renee was born January 3, 1932 in France, the daughter of Rheinholdt and Lena Ungerer. She grew up in Neu-Ulm, Germany. In the 50s, Renee met her future American husband, John Butts, Jr., and they relocated to Sugar Creek, Missouri. She was a long-time member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Independence, MO. Renee had a “green thumb” and enjoyed plants of all kinds, especially her herb and flower gardens. She also had a passion for aviation – even taking several flying lessons. Renee loved all animals, especially her precious dog Flora. She
enjoyed cooking for family, especially any noodle-based dishes or her authentic German potato salad. She loved spending time with all her family and her friends.
Renee was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Wolfgang, Dieter, and George; husband John D. Butts Jr.; and two sons: John D. Butts III and Michael Butts.
She is survived by 2 daughters: Martha Russell (Richard) and Mary Fetters, both of Independence, MO; 4 sons: Raymond Butts (Veronica) of Independence, MO, Daniel Butts (Lori) of Liberty, MO, George Butts (Stacy) of TN, and Patrick Butts (Asch-Lee) of Independence, MO; 26 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and 1 great great-grandchild.
