Robert “Bob” L. McCall Jr.

Robert (Bob) Lee McCall Jr., 80, of Lenexa, Kansas, passed away on April 12, 2016, in the middle of a lovely Spring sunset with his children by his side. Bob was born to the late Lee and Pearl McCall, July 15, 1935, in Winfield, Kansas. He graduated from Caney Valley High School in 1953 and graduated from Washburn University with a B.A. in Economics. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1955, was a veteran of the Korean War, and spent his career in public service employed by the Federal Aviation Administration until he retired in 1990.

Bob was an avid world traveler, an exercise enthusiast, and a loving father and grandfather. He was employed on international assignments for the federal government in Brazil, Thailand and India and he explored over 30 countries on five continents. He woke up everyday singing and was endearingly known as Papa Hawg to his grandchildren. His passion for life, love, travel, health, nature, running, and his family was an inspiration to everyone who knew him. His legacy will be remembered through his constant joy, his spirited storytelling, and through the example he set that true wealth is realized in the love of family and the ability to fully experience life.

Bob is survived by his sister: Jeanne Hoey (Phil); his 4 children: (from his first wife, Peggy Bradshaw) Linda Lombardo (Sam), Lori Burr (Steve), Vicki Goulas (Earl), and (from his second wife, Kelly Johns) Bo McCall (Tara); his 10 grandchildren: Matt, Mike, Mariele, Josh, Kasey, Jacob, Jordan, Ashley, Amanda and Juliet; his 14 great-grandchildren:  Ryann, Alison, Mackenzie, Brayden, Kaylee, Ethan, Kaleb, Kamryn, Lucy, Mason, Logan, Dahlia, Layla, Oliver (and one more on the way); and his 2 great-great-grandchildren: Addilyn and Greyson.

A private memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 7.  There will be a celebration of Bob’s life and open house beginning at 7:00pm at Clubhouse 1 in Four Colonies, 8201 Monrovia Street.

Bob had a tender heart for his pets and a love of animals, therefore the family requests that any donations be made to Wayside Waifs Animal Shelter.
