Roger G. Horne Sr.


Roger Gerald Horne Sr., 81, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at his home.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 29th at Lee’s Summit First Assembly of God, 425 SW Oldham Parkway, Lee’s Summit, MO 64081; burial at New Salem Cemetery, Independence, MO.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, November 28th at the church.

Roger was born November 19, 1935 in Cushing, Minnesota, the son of Rodney F. and Evelyn (Pankratz) Horne.  He married Donna Payne on June 24, 1954 in Independence.  Roger was employed as a machinist for Allied Signal in Kansas City for 40 years, and was a member of Local Lodge #314.  He was a committed Christian who was dedicated to his wife and 12 children, his “Lucky 13”.  He was a huge fan of the Royals and Chiefs.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert & David Horne; and an infant granddaughter, Kelsey Horne.

His survivors include his wife of 62 years, Donna Horne of the home; 5 daughters: Diana Abbott of Lee’s Summit, Robin (Michael) Roberts of Lee’s Summit, Dereen (Matt) Fortsch of Joplin, MO, Deborah (James) Funk of North Kansas City, MO, and Roxanne (Steven) Lowe of Blue Springs, MO; 7 sons: Roger (Lynne) Horne Jr. of Lee’s Summit, Randy (Netta) Horne of Kansas City, KS, Dennis (Kim) Horne of Overland Park, KS, Richard (Connie) Horne of Lee’s Summit, Douglas (Robin) Horne of Belton, MO, Russell (Kerry) Horne of Kansas City, MO, and Robert (Lauri) Horne of Raytown, MO; 38 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Vicki (Ron) Turley of Lee’s Summit, and Jeanette (Bill) Grubb of Blue Springs.
