Roger M. Hill

Roger M. Hill, 64, of Independence, Missouri went to be with his heavenly father June 14, 2020.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 20th at Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley, MO; burial to follow in Valley Memorial Gardens, Grain Valley. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.

Roger was born in Kansas City, MO, to Richard V. Hill and E. Lois (Barleen) Hill on January 22, 1956.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard David Hill.  He is survived by his sister, Sandra Hanna and brother-in-law Dan of Buckner, MO; sister-in-law, Paula Hill of Boerne, TX; 9 nieces and nephews; and 22 great nieces and nephews.

Roger lived most of his life in Independence.  Roger graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1974 where he was honored to be student council president. During his high school years, he became a Christian through the ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ.  His new life in Christ gave him a passion for the truth and study of God’s word which led him to Calvary Bible College.  While there, Roger earned a bachelor’s degree in Pastoral Studies.  His desire upon graduation was to become a pastor and teach God’s word.  However, God had other plans which led him to an over-the-road truck driving career.  In his spare time, Roger pursued his passions for music and writing.  He wrote many songs and made a CD he titled Green Lands.  He wrote several gospel tracts and wrote a book and screenplay, Wings of Love.

Roger was a wealth of information and those who listened to him benefited from his insight of the scriptures and his gift for explaining theological questions.  In his final years here, he suffered the crippling results of diabetes, but family and friends are comforted knowing that he is now with our Lord and no longer suffering.  Roger never lost his love for Christ and faithfully held onto the WORD of TRUTH.  Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe?”

  1. Sending my deepest condolences to his sister, brother-in-law and all his family. Some of my best high school memories are with and because of Roger. Kind, loving, generous of heart, and with a deep faith. He will always have a place in my heart.

  2. I worked with Roger a few years at the Sprint bldg in Lee’s. Summit As Security guards.
Roger was a good man, he loved the lord.
He was a believer. And a preacher. He believed
the bible from genesis to revelation. God’s word. The last time I had seen Roger was at Perkins cafe in Lee’s Summit. Roger had brung
a friend with him. Probably a couple of years ago. We talked about the good ole days. He was a brother and a friend.
