Rosemary “Rosie” Martinez-Smith

Rosie Smith, 70, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away Sunday May 1, 2016.  Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, May 5, 2016 at Old Salem Cemetery, Independence, MO.  The visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at New Salem Funeral Home, Independence.

Rosie was born on October 16, 1945 in Kansas City, Missouri the daughter of Margarito and Catalina (Garcia) Martinez.  She recently retired as a primer operator from Lake City Ammunition after 20 years of employment.  She was a member of St. Gabriel Archangel Parish in North Kansas City, Missouri.  She enjoyed shopping and made friends everywhere she met.  She was known to have never met a stranger.

Rosie was preceded in death by her parents: Margarito “Mousie” Martinez and Wendell and Catalina “Katie” Rodgers; and one brother, Richard P. Martinez.

Her survivors include her husband, Johnny Smith of the home; daughter, Kathy (Doug) Jerinigan of Hannibal, MO; three sons: Johnny Smith and Richard (Christina) Smith both of Kansas City, MO, and Ray (Nina) Smith of Centertown, MO; brother, Robert O. Martinez of Kansas City, MO; 8 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

    We are sadden to hear of Rosie passing, What a great lady that the lord has received, she may be gone from you,but now that she is now in heaven and is rid of all her sickness she has now been blessed with her wings of an Angel and is with all of you now in your hearts and she will continue to watch over each and everyone one of you from above. ~ Russ & Janane Brink

    We are so sorry to know another victim to cancer who past away. Too many of our family, friends and others have died because of this terrible disease. We remember Rosie in those long ago days of racing against Johnny as a little gal who would fight anyone who said or did anything concerning how Johnny did on the track. We liked that about her. When I said fight, I meant she stood up for what she thought was right. We are praying that the Good Lord will give you all peace and comfort through this most sad time and the future. ~ Louie Clevenger family
