Stanton Charles Preston, 81, of Independence, Missouri, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 29, 2011 in the home he shared with his daughter Robin and her family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 4, 2011 at Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley, MO; burial in Valley Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 3rd at the funeral home.
Stanton was born August 4, 1929 in Kansas City, MO, the son of Edwin & Lula (Pettigrew) Preston. He graduated from Grain Valley High School in 1947, and served his country for four years in the United States Navy aboard the USS Los Angeles during the Korean War. After an Honorable Discharge, he worked for Kansas City Power and Light until retiring in 1994. On June 23, 1963, he married LaWanda June Holland. Stan was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time with his wife and family.
His survivors include his daughters Robin Preston Wellman & husband Roger, Carrie Preston Gonzales & husband George, all of Independence; Grandchildren Megan Wellman, Nathan Preston Wellman, Jason Carpenter & wife Cheri, Jeremy Carpenter & wife Michele, Carolyn Johnston & husband Bill, Michael Gonzales & Patience Preston; 12 Great Grandchildren; sister Patsy Chiddix & husband Elbert; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife June Preston, parents Edwin & Lula Preston, brother Arden Preston Jr., sister Sara Rogers, and son Richard Preston.
