Terry Schlotman

Terry Schlotman, 69, of Wellington, MO, passed away surrounded by his family on Monday, November 30, 2020 at KU Medical Center.  A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring when the county deems it safe to congregate.  The family will publicize the ceremony when event details have been determined.  Memorials may be given to Lexington Restoration Branch or St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital. Terry was born on July 7, 1951, in Oakland, Nebraska, the son of John and Betty Schlotman.  He received his Bachelor’s Degree in History from Hunter College and his Master’s Degree in Social Work from St. Louis University.  Terry served in the United States Air Force as a Captain for three years.  He married his wife Marcia Schlotman on December 29, 1973.  Together, they successfully ran his social work practice, Schlotman Counseling Services, for 23 years.  His practice promoted positive mental health in the Lafayette County, Ray County, Johnson County, and Carroll County areas.  Terry had previously served on the Wellington-Napoleon R-9 School Board as well as being an active member of the Wellington chapter of the Lion’s Club.  He was also a faithful member of the Lexington Restoration Branch where he served in the office of Teacher.
Terry’s life goal was to one day become a published author.  He accomplished this goal in the Spring of 2020 when he published his first and only novel entitled Revive: Truth to Power.  His novel is available through Amazon and Barnes and Noble.  The completion of his novel finalized his legacy; the promotion of voice and the advocacy of truth and decency.  Terry will be greatly missed by his family, his community, and his business associates. Terry was preceded in death by his parents and his infant sister, Glenda Schlotman.

He is survived by his wife, Marcia Schlotman of Wellington, MO; son, Kyle Schlotman of Oceanside, CA, and his children, Brooklynn and Maddux; son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Katie Schlotman of Independence, MO, and their children, Adellyn and Chance; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Erica Schlotman of Blue Springs, MO, and their children Michael and Marley; daughter and son-in-law, Kourtney and Richard Michael of Lee’s Summit, MO, and their children Andrew, Matthew, and Rebekah; and brothers, Mark and Dale Schlotman of Independence, MO.
