Vernon Marion “Pete” Corliss, 74, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 20th at Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove, MO; burial in Sni Mills Cemetery, Oak Grove. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Vernon was born July 17, 1943, in Junction City, Kansas, the son of Vernon Willoughby and Mary Rose (McHugh) Corliss. He was a millwright at Armco Steel for 32 years, and a member of the Steelworker’s Union. Vernon liked to go camping at the lake, fishing, and hunting. He was also a Baptist, and enjoyed listening to music, going to concerts, and especially spending time with his family.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Greg Corliss; and two sisters: Carol Corliss and Maryann Corliss.
His survivors include his wife of 37 years, Lee Ann Corliss of the home; six children: Pete Corliss (Anna) of Independence, MO, Kim Sherrell (Jason) of Sedalia, MO, Candy Corliss of Kansas City, Misty Marcomb (Frank) of Chicago, IL, Brandon Corliss, and Travis Corliss, both of Kansas City; three sisters: Karen Dike (Shorty) of Centerview, MO, Darlene Sullivan of Blue Springs, MO, and Linda Courtright (David) of Independence; thirteen grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
