Wayne E. Oliver


Wayne Edward Oliver, 88, of Oak Grove, MO passed away January 24, 2012 at the Oak Grove Nursing Home. At the request of Wayne, no services will be held. The family will have a private burial.

Wayne was born August 24, 1923 in Belle, MO to Zack R. and Edna (Ridenhour) Oliver. The family moved to the Englewood area of Independence for employment purposes and then to Bates City, MO. Wayne graduated from Bates City High School in 1940. During World War II he was in the pilot section of the cadet program of the Air Force. In 1944 he married Gloria Groom. For several years he was employed at the Ford Company and also sold cars for Jim Campbell Ford. He also raised livestock on the farm. For recreation and interest in hunting, he acquired a Brittany Spaniel pup. He trained and campaigned Ban-Dee to the National Field Trail Championships in 1973 and repeated his feat in 1974. Ban-Dee is now in the Field Trail Hall of Fame in Grand Junction, TN. In later years he became interested and was successful in the racing of Standardbred horses and the showing of Spotted Walking horses. He was a member of the Bates City Baptist Church. Earlier in life he was active in the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge. Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother: Cleatys H. Oliver; a sister: Wanda Oliver Ewbank. Wayne is survived by his wife, Gloria of the home; son: Jerry W. Oliver and wife Linda of Oak Grove, MO; granddaughter: Pam Oliver Peterson and husband Eric; great-granddaughters: Jordan and husband Dustin Casselman.
