Wilma Bennetzen-McGonigle, 85, of Independence, MO passed away Monday, March 9, 2020. Visitation will be held from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 12th at Royer’s New Salem Funeral Home, Independence, MO, with Memorial Service following at 4:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Wilma’s name to the ASPCA.
Wilma was born March 2, 1935 in Lee’s Summit, MO, to Lonnie M. & Charity M. (Bowers) Taylor. She was a homemaker for most of her life, but also was a seamstress for many years making suits for men, dresses for women, and lots of Barbie clothes. Wilma loved living in Colorado and the mountains. She was a good cook – especially her fried chicken and homemade donuts.
Wilma was preceded in death by 1st husband, Robert Bennetzen; 2nd husband, James McGonigle; son, Steven Bennetzen; and sister, Sallie Minter.
Wilma is survived by 5 children: Bob Bennetzen and Bill Bennetzen, both of Independence, Janet McDonley of Columbus, OH, Julie Jones of Independence, and James Bennetzen of OK; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Maxine Bach of Independence, MO; brother, Tom Taylor of Collins, MO; and sister, Violet Dorman of Bolívar, MO.
