Zelda M. Durbin


Zelda Marie Durbin, 84, of Independence, Missouri, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2017 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 4th at New Salem Funeral Home, Independence; burial in Mt. Washington Cemetery, Independence.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Zelda was born December 23, 1932 in Wildhorse, Oklahoma, the daughter of William Carroll and Ola Rebecca (Neighbors) Brown.  She worked as an office manager for an insurance company for 19 years, until retiring in 1995. Zelda enjoyed classic country music and was a member of the Little Band and Lowly Bible Baptist Church.  She enjoyed watching and listening to birds, and loved dogs, especially her dog Truman.

Zelda is survived by three daughters: Lisa Snead of Independence, Irene Cody of Skiatook, OK, and Norma Shuffeild of Oklahoma City, OK; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren; and her beloved dog, Truman.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Boyd; and two daughters, Becky Fare and Eilene Sieber.
