Alvis J. “Dock” Walker died February 15, 2016 at Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. Dock was married to his loving wife, Bea, on November 8, 1947 and spent 68 years together, devoted to each other. Dock worked at Missouri Portland Cement in Independence, Mo for 35 years, retiring January 1, 1989. He was an Army veteran, serving at the end of WW11 and the beginning of the Korean Conflict.
Dock was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Nancy Walker, his sister, Alma Van Winkle, and his daughter Carlene Brock. He is survived by his wife Beatrice (Gumm) Walker, his daughter Francie Brock and her husband Sam of Independence, his son-in-law Pat Brock and his wife Barbie of Stillwater, Oklahoma, his grandchildren David and Jennifer Brock of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Aaron and Melinda Brock of Woodward, Oklahoma, Kay and Rob Douglas of Independence, Sandra and RaDel Hinckley of Independence and eight great-grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren. Dock was a member of the East Independence Church of Christ, where he developed deep and lasting friendships as he served the Lord. He will be remembered by his family and his many dear friends as a happy, helpful, gentle man.
Services will be held Thursday, February 18, 2016 at New Salem Funeral Home. Visitation 9 – 10:30 a.m. Funeral at 10:30 a.m. Burial in Swan Lake Cemetery.
