Carla AnnE Darr was born in Great Bend KS to Ned and Adeline (Feldman) Darr. Her mother’s family settled there from Germany in the 1800s. Her paternal grandmother wrote about her family acquiring land in The Land Rush of 1889 in Oklahoma. She graduated in 1953 from Great Bend High School then moved to Hutchinson, Kansas. Her journey of faith began in 1955 when she accepted Christ as her personal Savior, her faith and the people who would come into her life because of that decision would continue to sustain her throughout her lifetime. By 1963 she was living as a single mother of two young children, Steven Paul, (1958), and Catherine AnnE, (1959). In August 1963 Steven died tragically in a car accident and in the summer of 1964, Carla set out on a new adventure and life in Santa Maria California where she met and married (Oct 1969) W Ray Hooks and his four children and became a family of seven! Summers were spent camping up in the redwoods of California…their lives revolving around sports and school activities. Carla had an amazing talent for sewing and creating lovely spaces, decorating both in her home and events for her church and even decorating the polling place where she volunteered for years, “GrandmafromCalifornia” was known for her epic dress-up and tea parties and the many mystery boxes shipped to her family!
In 2018 she and Ray moved to Missouri to be near their daughter, Cathy, and her family. In Missouri, they enjoyed gathering with family and the visits from their children from other states.
Carla passed-away peacefully surrounded by her loving family.
