Delma I. Oyler


Delma Irene Oyler, 88, passed away April 29, 2024 at Baptist Homes of Independence in Independence, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 2, 2024 at Royer’s New Salem Funeral Home, Independence; burial following in New Salem Cemetery, Independence. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Delma was born August 20, 1935 in Ransom, Kansas to Leroy and Margaret Ruff. She worked as a hair dresser at her home and also worked several jobs outside the home in later years. Delma was a member of Courageous Life Church in Independence. She was a strong Christian woman who thrived on caring for her husband, children, grandchildren and anyone in need. She held a bible study for seniors in her home when she lived at Glendale at the Mansion in Independence. Friends and family referred to Delma as a Proverbs 31 Woman: “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” Delma will be dearly missed.

Delma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 44 years, Andrew Oyler and her daughter, Debbie Worley.

Delma is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Foster; daughter, Nita (Dave) Anderson; son, John (Mary) Oyler; daughter, Marsha (Jim) Nicodemus; son, Jay (Julie) White; son, Lyle (Joi) Oyler; daughter, Cindi (Pat) Rulon; son, Brad (Kim) Oyler, 16 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

  2. It was an honor to have Mrs. Oyler at Baptist Homes of Independence. It is especially encouraging to know Delma loved the Lord and is with Him today! May the God of call comfort abide with the family during this season of grief tempered by the hope and confidence we have in Christ.
