Grover L. Desmond


Grover Lee Desmond, 84, of Independence, MO passed away December 28, 2021.  Visitation will be 5-6 p.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at Royer’s New Salem Funeral Home; Independence, MO. Memorial service will follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Grover was born February 3, 1937, in Booneville, MO to Thomas D. & Corrine (Thurman) Desmond. He retired from Kenworth Trucks. Grover was a member of the American Legion. He was of the Methodist faith. Grover loved antique cars, car shows, playing cards and all animals and especially dogs. He enjoyed spending time with his family. Grover was an avid Royals and Chiefs fan.

Grover was preceded in death by his parents: Thomas & Corrine Desmond; daughter: Cindy O’Nale and brother: Willard Wright.

Grover is survived by his wife Elaine Desmond of the home; 4 children: Donna Kirkwood (Jerry) of Prairie Village, KS, Michelle Michalski (Dylan) of Merriam, KS, Jody Melia of Independence, MO, William “Chip” Lloyd (Leslie) of Independence, MO; 9 grandchildren: Michael Kirkwood, Samantha Kirkwood, Lane Michalski, Alexis Michalski, Travis Lloyd, Taylor Lloyd, Kristen Hector, Mikayla Melia, Martin Melia; 6 great-grandchildren: Jonathan, Joshua, Hali, Paige, Lauren, Landon; sister: Barbara Purdy (David) of Pilot Grove, MO.

  9. Just saw that Grover had passed away. My husband worked with Grover many years at Space Center.
    Grover came to our home many times as “Santa” for great grandson. The sweetest man and such a gentleman. Keeping his family in our prayers.
    Elaine you were is queen and he would tell folks what a great lady you were.
