Harold R. Schonhoeft


Harold Raymond Schonhoeft, 84, of Kansas City, MO passed away August 29, 2020. Visitation will be 10:30-11 a.m. Saturday September 12, 2020 with a Memorial service to follow at Royer’s New Salem Funeral Home; Independence. Burial will follow the service at New Salem Cemetery.

Harold Raymond Schonhoeft was born in Jena, Falls County, Texas on December 2, 1935.  He died on August 29th at the age of 84 in Seasons Care Center, KCMO.  

Harold was raised in Burlington, Texas.  He had a beautiful voice and sang in the choir in high school and played football.  He received a vocal scholarship to a Texas college and attended one year.  He then moved to Kansas to live with his Aunt Ann and Uncle Ray where he began work with the railroad.  He was introduced to Donna Meusch on a blind date.  He married Donna and they moved to the Plaza area in KCMO.  He worked as a dance instructor for Arthur Murray, He and mom could sure cut a rug!  Then he worked for the KC Stockyards.  From there he worked for Friden for 20 years.  He went to many places in the country for schooling to learn new and different things about WP equipment.  A couple of times taking his family with him to California.  After Friden/Singer downsized Harold started his own business H & K Company doing what he knew best, Word Processors and office machinery.  In a few years he incorporated and branched out to computers, programming for different applications and electronic signs.  He had a resale store in Raytown, MO. called Crazy Harold’s.  From there he had a shop off of Noland Rd. in Independence, MO, computers sales and such.  He began his business, Harold’s Sales and Service, a heating and cooling company on 24 Hwy. in Independence MO.  He retired in 2008.  Harold loved his family and his pets.  His hobbies included riding motorcycles, hill climbing and enduros.  He was very good at it and had many trophies, He was the President of the Independence Hill Climbers Association for some time. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, canoeing, snow skiing, water skiing, scuba diving and farming.  He purchased an eighty-acre farm in Osage County Kansas in 1970 and began to farm.  He was called the City Farmer by many. He grew milo, wheat and soybeans.  Harold was a man of many talents and was not afraid of a challenge.  

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Marie Schonhoeft, a sister, Mary and Donna Schonhoeft, his wife of 51 years. 

Harold is survived by his sister and her husband, Louise and LeeRay Chollett, his brother, Eldon Schonhoeft.  His daughters and their husbands, Karen and Wayne Kelsey, Jana and Rick Rucker, Rhonda and Jim McNabb and Carla and Alan Dykema.  His grandchildren, Sarah, Peter (his wife Cass) and James Kelsey (his wife Amber), Janel Mullendore (her partner Kevin), Sean and Taylor Rucker, Amy and Kate McNabb.  He also leaves 5 great granddaughters, Chloe, Arianna, Ella, Harper and Willa. He was a #1 Dad would give anyone a chance if they wanted to learn and work. He was loved by many and will be missed by all.
