
Hilda Lorene Steffens, 75, passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at her home in Independence, MO. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 10th at Royer’s New Salem Funeral Home, Independence; burial in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens, Independence. The family will greet guests from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Hilda was born March 13, 1943 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Roy and Helen (Thompson) Chapman. She was a custodian for the Fort Osage School District for 27 years and attended the Oak Grove 7th day Adventist Church. Hilda enjoyed going to garage sales, doing word search puzzles, and her flower garden. Most of all, she loved her family and spending time with her granddaughter and her puppy dog, Hannah.
Hilda is survived by her husband of 54 ½ years, Homer “Jim” Steffens of the home; three daughters: Shelly Steffens, Sandra Yefimov (Maksim) and Amanda Steffens-Chico, all of Independence; one granddaughter, Krystyn Steffens of Independence; and one grandson, Tazman Brockman; and 5 sisters, Hazel Hupman, Hester Young, Maxine Mangum, Donna Jackson and Diane Ford.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, James Emmit Steffens; and two brothers, Roy and John Chapman.
