James E. Phillips

James “Ed” Edward Phillips of Kansas City, MO passed away on Saturday, March 30th, 2024. Graveside services will be at 1:00pm on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at the Oak Grove Cemetery, Oak Grove, MO.

Ed was born on August 4th, 1953 in Dallas, Texas where he was adopted by Alfred and Ethel Phillips. After the passing of his father Alfred, Ed’s mother Ethel bought a 250 acre farm near El Dorado Springs, Missouri. Ed grew up on the farm with his brother Richard Phillips before achieving his degree at Missouri State University. Ed would eventually move to Kansas City, where he would use his degree and passion for drawing to work for Hallmark as a graphic designer for over a decade. Wanting the ability to be his own boss, Ed would leave Hallmark to begin his journey as an entrepreneur. He would go on to have his only child, Drew Phillips who was his pride and joy. Ed was a die hard sports fan, rooting for the Kansas City Royals, Chiefs, and Missouri Tigers. Ed and his son Drew shared these interests in sports, shaping Drew’s childhood and career. Even up until his passing, Ed had a strong passion for helping those who were less fortunate.
