James J. Megerson

James Joseph Megerson of Independence, Missouri passed away on July 4, 2026.

James was born August 30, 1945 to Shellvie and Mary (Boehm) Megerson. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Carole Evans, brother John Megerson and sister-in-law Nancy.  James is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth I. Megerson, their son, James E. Megerson, daughters, Lori Crozier and Melissa Unruh, ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

James grew up with a strong sense of responsibility and hard work from an early age helping his dad on his milk route along with other odd jobs. He found enjoyment in bowling, growing a large garden and home renovations. He was willing to help his family and friends with their home projects which turned into teaching moments for him. While he wasn’t one to wear his emotions on his sleeve, his family knew they could always count on him. He showed his love by being dependable, offering practical advice and always being willing to help when it was needed.

James spent more than 30 years as a proud member of Sheet Metal Workers Local Union No. 2 where he served as Safety Director and taught at the Sheet Metal Apprenticeship School. He enjoyed passing along his knowledge to the next generation of sheet metal workers.

As an Eagle Scout, James found great enjoyment and pride as his son and many grandchildren followed him in earning the rank of Eagle Scout. James was a Warrior in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, where he continued to embrace the values of leadership, service and the outdoors.

Those who knew James will remember his confidence, strong work ethic and straightforward nature. He believed in working hard, keeping your word and helping others. He will be missed by his loved ones and friends.

A Celebration of Life will take place fall 2026.
