Kenneth E. Gentry

Kenneth Everett Gentry, 74, of Odessa, Missouri, passed away Friday, May 24, 2019 at home with family at his bedside, after a long illness.  Cremation, no services.  Remember Kenny with your fondest, happiest, and funniest memory!

Kenny was a police officer for Blue Springs Police Department for 26 years.  He was the Commander of the STAT team from 1982-1995.  His role on the team during activation was Sniper#1!  The STAT team was his greatest love and highlight of his career!  Kenny also served as a firearms instructor.  In his younger years, he enjoyed working on cars, re-building engines and drag racing!  He loved the peaceful feeling of riding his motorcycle!

Kenny loved water skiing and hunting, but what he loved most in life were his friends and family!!  He was a people person with a quick wit, and everyone has a funny memory with Kenny right in the middle of it!  He LOVED his family, especially his children, Beth, Bryan, and Diane!  He met his wife, Nancy, when she came to work as a dispatcher for Blue Springs Police Department in 1991, where it was her job to tell him where to go and what to do!  They married on December 16, 1998.  Nancy continued to do her job telling him where to go and what to do but no longer needed the microphone!

Kenny was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Beth Ann Gentry; his parents, Everett W. and Mary Allene Gentry; and stepson, Levi Newlon.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Nancy, of the home; son, Bryan A. Gentry of Blue Springs, MO, and grandchildren: Alec, Nevin, Cayden, Sophie and Ellie Gentry; daughter, Diane L. Gentry Green Newlon and husband Mickey of Lone Jack, MO, and grandchildren: Joshua, Jennah, and Marissa Green, Haleigh and Jordan Newlon and great-granddaughter Emaliah Newlon; stepson, David Smith and Tammi Evans of Lee’s Summit, MO, and grandchildren Kelsey and Blake Smith, and great-grandson Xander Smith; stepson, Bryan and Leslie Smith of Pleasant Hill, MO, and grandchildren, Alyssa and Zackary Smith; stepson, Stephen Smith of the home; dear friend and mother of children, Joan Gentry;
best friends, Gerard Cross (Joann) and Tommy Davis his special cousin; his Blue Springs PD family;  and many cousins.

  1. Kenny I will miss your quick wit and humor. Everyone who knew Kenny knew there was not a shy bone in is body. My fondest memories were our elk hunting trips to Colorado. On one of those trips I was an eye witness to his short but brief saddle bronc ride. I have to laugh today thinking what are faces must have looked like. Kenny I will cherish those memories and are friendship. – Don Downs
