Mark R. Combs


Mark Richard Combs, 64, of Independence, MO passed away August 2, 2019.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 8th at Royer’s New Salem Funeral Home. Memorial service will follow at 6:30 p.m.  His ashes will be interred at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 9th in Oak Grove Cemetery, Oak Grove, MO.

Mark was born December 5, 1954 in Kansas City, the son of Vernon Omer and Lucile Mae (Bilyeu) Combs.  He worked for Smithereen Pest Control for 46 years. Mark loved his garden and growing tomatoes and cucumbers. He was known for his salsa.  Mark loved the KC Chiefs, KC Royals, and Mizzou.  He also loved fishing, family trips Down Home, and his dog Lucy.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, sister Donna Jean Combs, and brother Vernon Gayland Combs.

He is survived by his son, Richard Combs (Michelle) of Independence, MO; daughter, Lynona Polich of Independence, MO; four grandchildren: Jeremy, Sage, Tristan, and Emma; great-granddaughter, Hazel; brother, David Combs of Moore, OK; and sister, Martha Combs of Ozark, MO.

  2. My deepest condolences for his family. I will miss Mark. I only knew Mark briefly, but he left me some wisdom that I will carry forever. I’m grateful I was able to share some time with him. I learned a lot. He was special to the Smithereen Family and he will be dearly missed. He had exceptional service skills and his customer service skills are second to none. I feel lucky to have had his salsa and met Lucy. I will miss my phone calls with Mark. However, I’m left grateful to have had those calls. – Dave Frederick
