Mary F. Cox


Mary F. Cox, 101, of Independence, MO, formerly of Lake of the Ozarks, MO, passed away June 12, 2019.  Graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 21st in Mt. Washington Cemetery, (use Truman Rd gate entrance), Independence, MO.  In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to: Integrity Hospice, 3751 NE Ralph Powell Rd, Lee’s Summit, MO 64064 or Independence Manor Care Center, 1600 S. Kings Hwy, Independence, MO 64055.

Mary was born July 14, 1917 in Richmond, MO to Thomas & Ora M. (Shumate) Fitzwater.  Mary was 101 years, 10 months, and 28 days at the time of her death. She loved to play Bingo and enjoyed the Lake of the Ozarks where she lived for over 40 years.  Mary also loved to travel.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas & Ora Fitzwater; husband, Ted Cox; stepson, Dale Cox; 3 brothers; and 2 sisters.

Mary is survived by 1 daughter, Linda Diane McComas (Ronald) of Clinton, MO; 2 stepsons: Jim Cox (Theresa) of Lamar, MO and Teddy J. Cox (Susan) of TX; 1 sister, Dora Parker of Kansas City, MO;  granddaughter & caregiver, Crystal McDaniel of Independence, MO; great-granddaughter & caregiver, Amy Bentz of Independence, MO; great-great-grandson & caregiver, John Halligan of Independence, MO;  step-granddaughter, Jessi Cox of Springfield, MO;  step-granddaughter, Holly Cox of CO; step-grandsons: Dale Cox of Higginsville, MO, and Jim Cox of Bates City, MO; 2 great-grandsons: Kaelan McDaniel of Independence, MO, and Chester A McDaniel II of Buckner, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.

  1. I want to extend my condolences to Mary’s family. I got to meet her a couple of times in the last few years. The last time being her 100th birthday party. It was a pleasure getting to meet her and her Great Granddaughter, Amy. may she rest in peace. – Cyndi Masuch
