Minnie L. Firkins


Minnie Lee Firkins, 90, of Independence, Missouri went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 surrounded by family at her home. 

She was a caring wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma, sister, aunt, and friend. On August 22, 1932 she was born to Lewis and Minnie Huntsucker in Sibley, Missouri. After graduating high school, Minnie married the love of her life, Ray Firkins and soon became a Navy wife and mother to their three children. So many lives were touched by her kindness, from her bus driving years, to her gracious and loving acceptance into her heart and home. Delighting in serving others, you could often find Minnie spending time in the kitchen preparing meals. She was a talented seamstress, making clothes for her children and grandchildren, including many formal dresses. Over the years, she also created award winning oil paintings and porcelain dolls. Her passions also included listening to music, traveling, gardening, camping, journaling her daily life, and worshiping at East Side Church surrounded by many friends. 

Survivors include her husband of 71 years, Ray Firkins; 2 daughters and their spouses Christi & Greg Dudley, Tana & Jeff Smith and daughter-in-law, Frances Firkins. 6 Grandchildren: Monaca (Smith) White, (Brent), Sarah Firkins, Michael Firkins, (Jessica), Nicolas Dudley, (Jessica), Natasha (Dudley) Villanueva, (Eric) Emily (Firkins) Spangler, (Jared) and 13 Great-Grandchildren. 

Visitation will be held Friday, September 23, 2022, at 10am. Funeral will follow at 11am both held at East Side Church, Independence, MO Followed by burial at Royer New Salem.  In Lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to: East Side Church 19901 MO-78 Independence, MO. 64057
