
CAPT Morris Jacob Smith, 87, of Independence, MO passed away November 21, 2021.
Visitation will be 10-10:30 a.m. Friday, December 17, 2021 at St Paul A.M.E. Church 200 E. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64050. Memorial service will follow at 10:30 a.m. at that church and ZOOM ID:930 1642 4706 passcode: 20091
Inurnment with Military Honors will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, KS.
Morris Jacob Smith was the seventh of nine children born to Robert and Lela Smith. His parents and siblings: Ernest, Gertrude, Ida, Margarita, Nathaniel, Eugene, Madeline, and Maxinia preceded him in death.
Morris began his spiritual journey at the family church, Bethlehem Temple in Detroit, Michigan and was a member of St. Paul AMEC in Independence, Missouri at the time of his transition. Morris Jacob Smith, served in Korea as a Communications Center Specialist in the Air Force. Nurse Director CAPT Morris J. Smith, MSN, RN retired in December, 1991 from the Naval Department of the United States Public Health Service Department. He attended Henry Ford Community college where he earned his Associates Degree in 1964, Wayne State University for his Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing in 1969. Morris earned his Master’s Degree in Psychiatric Nursing in 1971 at The Catholic University of America. He was elected to active membership of the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States in 1978. Morris practiced Psychiatric Nursing for 30 years. He was a decorated serviceman and a loving, generous, honorable, compassionate, and wise husband, father, uncle, and nurse.
CAPT Smith is survived by his wife of 65 years Freddye Mae Smith; his daughter Timberlyn Smith; his son Leonard Smith (Rachel); his daughter Rev. Margaretta Smith Narcisse (Darryl); and grandchildren Dr. Darryl Narcisse (Jamise), Michelei Thomas (De’Andre), Michael Narcisse (Allanesha), and Leonard Smith, Carlos Grijalva (Christina), Antone Gonzalez; great-grandchild Cynia Thomas; and a host of nieces and nephews.
