Ralph T. Pugh


Ralph T. Pugh, 86, of Independence MO, died on Monday, September 11, 2023, at the Hospice House at North Kansas City Hospital. Visitation will be held at 1:00 PM with the funeral beginning at 2:00 PM both at Faith United Methodist Church, Grain Valley, MO on Saturday, September 16, with burial immediately following at Valley Memorial Gardens in Grain Valley, MO.

Ralph was born in Hickman, Kentucky on May 25th, 1937 to Moss Alan Pugh and Dorothy Houston Thurman Pugh. His work career was multifaceted working on a riverboat, trying out for the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team, working for the EPA, Commerce Bank, and retiring as a Captain from the Kansas City Missouri Police Department. Ralph remembered fondly those he worked with at KCPD as well as his time managing the SWAT team and planning the security for the 1976 Republican National Convention.

Anything concerning World War II, all sports, but especially University of Kentucky Wildcats Men’s Basketball, were his primary interests as well as his relationships with his family, friends, and fellow church members at Faith United Methodist Church in Grain Valley, MO.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 61 years Joyce Ann Anderson Pugh and his brothers David Pugh and Joe Pugh. He leaves a sister, Carolyn Cochran; a son, Kurt Pugh; a daughter, Kim Pugh Loesing (Cary); a grandson, Chet Loesing; a granddaughter, Joanna Loesing McCall (Nick); five great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Faith United Methodist Church.

  1. Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Ralph. He touched so many lives and will be thought of often and never forgotten. May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived. This Bible verse recorded in John 5:28 has been of comfort to our family when experiencing a loss. It reads “all those in the memorial tombs will hear his (Jesus Christ) voice and come out “. May God Jehovah give strength and his love to each of you always.
