Rev. Karl William Hanke Jr., 70, of Raytown, Missouri, passed away Friday, December 1, 2006 at Independence Regional Health Center. A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 5th at the Timothy Lutheran Church in Blue Springs. The family will receive friends from 6: – 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Concordia Lutheran Seminary in St. Louis, MO.
Karl was born on February 4, 1936 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the son of Karl St. & Zeledine Hanke. He married Barbara R. Favory on April 13, 1957. They have lived in Raytown since 1996. Rev. Hanke graduated from the Concordia Theological Seminary in Springfield, IL in 1964. He was a retired Chaplain and Lieutenant Colonel of the US Army. Over the years Rev. Hanke has pastored Lutheran churches in Waverly, IA, Monett, MO, Hiawatha, IA, Macomb, IL, and Ottawa, IL. He was currently a member of Timothy Lutheran Church of Blue Springs, MO.
Rev. Hanke was preceded in death by a son, Karl W. Hanke III in 2002.
His survivors include his wife, Barbara Hanke of the home; two sons: Kevin Hanke of Kansas City, MO and Kris Hanke of Raytown, MO; one daughter: Karina Hanke Ruthenberg of Raytown, MO; one brother: Paul Hanke of Delaware; eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
