Richard L. Garnier


Richard “Dick” LeRoy Garnier, 76, of Bates City, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at Kansas City Hospice House.  Services will be held on Saturday, October 13th at St. Jude the Apostle in Oak Grove, MO, with visitation at 10:00 a.m. and Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m., followed by graveside services in Oak Grove Cemetery.  After the graveside, family and friends will gather for food and fellowship at First Baptist Church of Oak Grove.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation in memory of Richard’s daughter, Angie.

Richard was born March 3, 1942, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Ernest G. and Mildred L. (Gooding) Garnier, and as Richard said, “raised in Benton County”.  He owned Ames Insurance Agency in Blue Springs, MO, and later retired from Naught Naught Agency in Grain Valley, MO.  Richard volunteered for Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad and enjoyed farming.  He was a member of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Angie Garnier in March 1986; and one sister, Barbara Corkill.

His survivors include his wife of 54 years, Karen Garnier of the home; son, Steve Garnier (Lisa) of Leeton, MO; daughter, Sarah Matson (Ben) of Bates City, MO; sister, Ernestine Iseman (Tom) of Raymore, MO; three grandsons, Leo Matson, Zeke Matson, and Isaac Matson expected in January.

  1. Dick and I first worked together as an underwriter with Eagle Star Ins Company, JC, MO, about 1983 . Many years later we purchased the agency in Blue Springs. I am sorry for the family’s loss. – Rick Naught
